Southern CA Representative

Marcia Kerr obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from CA State University Los Angeles. Graduate studies included herpetology and animal behavior. Marcia is currently the Southern CA Representative for the CA-based Drowning Prevention Foundation, a CA Coalition for Children’s Safety and Health board member, plus active member of the CA and Orange County (CA) Drowning Prevention Coalitions. Marcia became a Product Safety Investigator for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission soon after her two-year-old son, Cody, drown in the family’s backyard pool. As she continued her injury prevention work, Marcia served as one of the National Drowning Prevention Alliance’s founding board members and helped establish Families United to Prevent Drowning. After retirement, Marcia served as a Workgroup Chair with the U.S. National Water Safety Action Plan and is active in state/local pool barrier policy and legislation. In her spare time, Marcia is a novice boater, collects crystals and gemstones, and enjoys caring for her pet reptiles and birds.
